<말 없는 말(Words without Words)>은 사변적 서사에서 출발한 비디오 포엠(video poem)이다. 육중한 속도로 변모하는 시대의 흐름에 희생양이 되는 개인의 무기력한 자화상은 시지프스(Sisyphus)의 돌(바위)에 비유되고 흑백으로 교차되는 채널과 반복적인 메트로놈 사운드는 둘이지만 하나인 정반합의 관계를 암시한다. 영상 속 텍스트는 소설 ‘파우스트’에서 출발하였지만 자동번역을 통해 반연극의 양식처럼 상투적인 대사, 시점 없는 구조로 변환되어 전달능력을 상실한 말들이다. 이분법적 구조와 말의 충돌을 통해 삶의 모순과 갈등을 은유적으로 드러내고자 한 작품이다.

Words without Words is a video poem that begins from a speculative narrative. The listless self-portrait of individuals sacrificed on the altar of monumental historical currents is likened to the rock of Sisyphus, while intersecting black-and-white channels and the repeated sound of a metronome allude to a relationship of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis: two, yet at the same time one. The text within the video begins out of Faust, but as with the styles of anti-theater, they represent platitudinous dialogue, structure without perspective, words stripped of their communicative capabilities. Metaphorically, the work uses the collisions of words to represent the contradictions and conflict of life within the limitations of instrumental language that exists solely within the layers of the given signifier and signified without being able to access individual abstraction.
