<부유하는 좌표>는 지역적 언어가 다른 세계에서 소통의 기능성을 잃으면서 발생하는 사회적, 연대적 기능마비를 신체적 부자유에 비유하며 개인이 위치한 실존적 지점을 부유하는 좌표로 설정한다. 여기서 지역은 각 개인이자 집단이다. 물리적 공간과 신체의 개념이 지워지며 개인의 문화적 정체성이 하나의 공간이 되는 시점에서 지역의 개념은 장소에서 인간으로 이동한다. 이전 작업이 미디어와 자동기술 언어의 특징을 조작하여 생성된 우연적 의미의 맥락 안에서 이들의 문학적 가치를 탐구하려했다면, 이번 전시는 미디어라는 통로에서 개인이라는 노드가 차지하는 위치는 어떻게 정의될 수 있는지 자문해보려는 시도이자 은유적 접근이다.

각 지역은 끊임없이 유동하며 서로에게 간섭되고 변이한다. 이 과정에서 언어적 기능의 상실은 경로의 부재를 야기하고 개인의 추상과 문화적 정체성이 전이되지 못하고 단절되는 상태를 의미한다. 물질적 공간과 집단의 정서적 공간으로부터 새로 유입된 개인이 겪는 거리감은 곧 새로운 신체 개념의 부자유를 일으키며 위치를 점령하지 못하고 떠도는 하나의 덩어리가 된다. 제대로 작동되지 않는 개인의 주변적 서사는 세계로부터 인식되지 못하고 소실되는 것처럼 보이거나 실리적 세계에서 벗어나 모호성과 불완전함의 세계로 떠돈다.

언어의 기능이 곧 신체가 되고 경계의 개념이 사라진 세계에서 개인의 좌표는 물리적 공간에서의 그것처럼 자리를 차지하지 않고 배회한다. 이 전시는 파편화된 지역적 개념의 인간과 이를 잇는 언어의 불완전함 그리고 공간의 개념을 무너트리는 미디어에 대한 은유적 접근이다. 주체는 사라지고 주체의 불편을 돕는 보조매체들만이 남아 보는 이의 또 다른 불편을 야기하는 작품들은 신체와 언어, 기능, 장소, 미디어의 개념 대한 반문이자 개인의 불완전한 좌표를 드러내는 반영들이다.

Drifting Coordinate uses the lack of physical freedom as a metaphor for the paralysis of social functions and solidarity that arises as regional languages lose their communicative functionality within another world. In it, the real-world positions of individuals are converted into drifting coordinates. The “region” here constitutes each individual and group. As the concepts of physical space and the body are erased and the individual’s cultural identity transforms into a single space, the concept of the region shifts from a geographic space to the human being. Where my previous work involved exploring literary value within the context of accidental meaning produced by manipulating the characteristics of media and automated language, this exhibition represents a metaphorical approach that poses the question: how can the position occupied by the individual as “node” be defined within the pathway of media?

Each region is constantly flowing, impinging on others, mutating. The loss of linguistic functioning results in an absence of pathways, signifying a state in which an individual’s abstractions and cultural identity are severed without propagating. The sense of distance experienced by an individual newly transplanted from another physical and collective emotion space results in a lack of freedom for the new concept of body, which transforms into a drifting mass unable to occupy a position. Failing to function properly, these peripheral individual narratives seem to vanish, unrecognized by the world, or to escape their practical world and drift into a world of ambiguity and incompleteness.

In a word where linguistic functioning is the body and the concept of boundaries has disappeared, the individual’s coordinates hover about without occupying a place – like those in the physical world. The exhibition represents a metaphoric approach toward human beings as a fragmented regional concept, the incompleteness of the language that connects them, and the media that destroy the concept of space. As the subjects disappear, leaving only the supplementary media that assist with subjective discomfort, the works evoke a different form of discomfort in the viewer. They represent questions about the body, language, functions, places, and the concept of media, as well as reflections showing the incomplete coordinates of the individual.

< 표면들(Surfaces)> 은 신체의 피부,광물의 표면 그리고 디지털 모델링에 사용되는 텍스처들이 중첩되어 만들어지는 하나의 프리젠테이션이다.이것은 더 이상 물리적 공간에 국한되지 않는 물질 그리고 신체의 개념을 하나의 이미지로 번역하려는 시도이며,동시에 디지털 스크린에 피부를 부여하는 또 다른 행위이다.미디어는 하나의 매체 공간으로써 '지금', '여기'로 여겨지는 시간과 공간의 개념을 허물었다. 우리에게 익숙한 모든 존재의 물질적 속성은 미디어의 속도에 의해 축소되고,픽셀로 이루어진 디지털 이미지 공간은 실제 우리가 존재한다고 여겨지는 장소로 확장되고 있다.이 영상은 현미경의 시선으로 관찰된 피부조직과 광물의 표면 그리고 디지털 모델링 텍스처를 위계 없이 나열한 것이다.영상을 응시하는 자는 극도로 확대된 대상들의 표면에서 실제 대상의 주체를 인식하지 못하고 오로지 유사한 이미지의 집합을 하나의 대상으로 인식하게 된다.현실에서 '실제와 가상'그리고 '물질과 비물질'로 대립하는 것들이 결국 불완전한 세계관에서 거론되는 개념일 뿐임을 드러내고자 한 것이다.표면들과 함께 발현되는 일그러진 음성은 위치 감각을 잃어버린 자들을위한 매뉴얼을 디지털 음성으로 변환하여 기능을 상실한 파동으로써 작용하게끔 조작되었다.

Surfaces is a presentation created through the overlapping of flesh, mineral surfaces, and textures created with digital modeling. It is an attempt toward a single image translating the concept of the body and material that is no longer confined to physical space, and at the same time it is a different form of action conferring “skin” upon a digital screen. As a mediating space, media have broken down our concepts of space and time, what we regard as “here” and “now.” The physical properties of all things familiar to us are reduced by media’s speed; digital image spaces created from pixels expand into space where we believe ourselves to actually be present. In this video, the skin tissue, mineral surfaces, and digitally modeled textures are arranged without hierarchy. In the extremely enlarged surfaces of the objects, the viewer cannot actually perceive the objects’ principal qualities, recognizing only the combination of similar images as an “object.” What I seek to show here is that the oppositions of reality – the “real” and “virtual,” “material” and “immaterial” – are in the end just concepts referred to within an incomplete world view. The distorted sounds that appear with the surfaces were created from a manual for people who have lost their sense of place, which has been converted into digital sounds and made to operate as a wave stripped of its previous function.
